Messiaen & Morlock: Time Unbound
Featuring: Amy Hillis (violin), Anthony Thompson (clarinet), Bryan Holt (cello), Cheryl Duvall (piano)
Enter a musical experience where time bends, silence breathes, and sound becomes a vessel for transcendence.
This powerful program pairs two emotionally charged works:
🎼 Olivier Messiaen – Quartet for the End of Time
Composed while Messiaen was imprisoned during WWII, this iconic masterpiece is a meditation on eternity, faith, and hope. Written for the unusual combination of violin, clarinet, cello, and piano, it offers moments of radiant calm, ecstatic rhythm, and deeply spiritual reflection.
🎼 Jocelyn Morlock – Bird in the Tangled Sky
Inspired by birdsong and fragility in the face of chaos, Morlock’s atmospheric work takes flight in shimmering textures and lyrical gestures. It is a modern reflection on freedom, vulnerability, and resilience.
Performed by four acclaimed Canadian artists—Amy Hillis (violin), Anthony Thompson (clarinet), Bryan Holt (cello), and Cheryl Duvall (piano)—this concert explores the tension between turbulence and transcendence, devastation and beauty, captivity and flight.
Expect an evening of profound emotional depth, breathtaking stillness, and unforgettable chamber music.
