Transfigured Night

The players of the former Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (while they navigate upheaval of their own) take you from Felix Mendeilssohn’s 1825 Octet for Strings – when 19th Century music knew what it always would be – to Arnold Schoenberg’s 1899 Verklarte Nacht, when it was stretched to places it never thought it could go, to Claude Debussy’s 1904 Danses Sacrée et Profane, when the rules were rewritten completely. Witness the transfiguration of sound throughout the 19th and 20th centuries in this evocative program!
